Epicurious.

How did Epicurus ever come to give his name to Epicurean? Is there some logical explanation?

Even when Epicurious was alive, he had his detractors who said things about his teachings and his garden that actually are somewhat similar to those said about Christians (though no cannibalism for him).

He thought that women could learn and allowed them to learn his teachings so of course this meant he was encouraging orgies. He argued that the gods were so far above us that we shouldn't be afraid and constantly worrying about which sacrifices we've made to which gods and which god we've made angry so of course he was encouraging godless hedonism. The logical reason was because his critics were loud and more of their writings survived than his.

I am a huge fan of his actual teachings and find them quite useful in attempting to live a moderate life. Didn't you ever see the translation of some of his writings (the pieces that survive)on the bookshelf by my window? Very relaxing reading before sleep.
